Since 2002, the Ohio Department of Public Safety has recorded that crashes caused by drivers running a red light or stop sign have killed over 320 people and more than 23,000 have been injured. Many of the red-light related crashes include some of the 3,700 pedestrians who have been killed or injured in Ohio since 2002. In addition, over 950 crashes were recorded in school zones. These crashes resulted in injuries to over 200 children and adults.
Dayton, which began its project in February 2003, has seen a 42 percent reduction in crashes at eight intersections monitored by red-light cameras.
Toledo has seen traffic crashes drop 36 percent since cameras were installed.
